From a survey last week
Background
Brian Woodcock ( 3rd October Colac Herald ) is right to be concerned about the huge risk of policy instability in any coalition formed in December, but wrong to see anything deep in the contradictions he raises over the dead idea of Net Zero when he and his own coalition of the fearful keep talking about battery power as if it is the cheapest when it is not even viable, and his group of reactionaries can no longer even mention their former mad desire to change the atmosphere.
Clearly for the government to offer no cost power in the middle of the day means there are already too many of his windmills and panels. Nowhere in his worries does Brian properly mention gas which is the expensive but reasonable mix option that the current government are in complete denial about; take some investments of theirs off shore and around Mortlake.
The worriers of today don't seem to realize that the crowd of noisy slow learning quick fixers like his Ryan and Turnbull, who rightly capture our attention about our need for energy transitions, have until the last few months, got completely distracted and confused by trying to change the atmosphere and something called carbon dioxide; They talk about one thing, not a mix of things.
The incompetent incumbents need to stick to sound practical economics and science and decide, which job comes first , what costly bits should be in a mix, and stop the hypocrisy of chasing only three old technologies and so many heavenly goals at once.
One thing we can all do in this very unstable moment is focus, not on parties, but on the persons standing, and make sure that our Victorian Upper House is no longer occupied by a bunch of compliant rubber stampers from only one party.
